Hemophilia Treatment Centers (HTCs)
Since 1975, the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) has funded a national network of more than 135 Hemophilia Treatment Centers (HTCs) to provide integrated services to and increased access to care for children and adults with rare, inherited bleeding disorders. These HTCs currently provide services to over 30,000 individuals affected by hemophilia, von Willebrand disease (VWD), and other rare coagulation disorders.
Hemophilia Treatment Centers (HTCs) are specialized centers that bring together a team of doctors, nurses, and other health professionals experienced in treating people with hemophilia. HTCs provide access to multidisciplinary health care professionals with comprehensive care, meaning their medical team of experts can guide you and connect the dots of your various care needs. While they can help with your specific bleeding disorder related needs, they often also have social workers and psychologists to help with your mental health needs as well.
HTCs can have a variety of experts to meet your needs, including a hematologist, dentist, nurse, physical therapist, psychologist, social worker, primary care physician, and pediatrician.
Studies have shown that the multi-disciplinary, comprehensive and specialized care for bleeding disorder patients that HTCs provide lowers mortality and hospitalization rates, controls emergent and urgent care costs, and increases quality of life for patients.
