Springfield Legislative Days

EVENT CANCELLED

WE NEED COMMUNITY REPRESENTATIVES TO JOIN US IN SPRINGFIELD!

BDAI’s annual Springfield Legislative Days empowers individuals in the Illinois bleeding disorders community to impact the legislative process. We will provide training before the actual advocacy day so that each participant learns how to tell his or her story to the legislator. We will also practice a meeting before we make our legislative visits. Visits will be done in assigned groups (not individually). You will be educated and provided with materials about key issues. At the end of the training and mock meeting, you will be able to comfortably and effectively share information with legislators.

Springfield Legislative Days provide the opportunity to:

  • Meet face-to-face with your legislators who shape healthcare policy about bleeding disorders

  • Become involved in the decision-making regarding the critical issues that affect the continued access to the medications you or a family member need

  • Let your elected officials know what it is truly like to live with and be impacted by a bleeding disorder

Please note that this event requires business attire (no jeans, tee shirts, sneakers, etc). Please refrain from wearing clothing with company logos. Bring anything you may have used in the past to explain bleeding disorders in less than 5 minutes to legislators (such as short but impactful personal stories, photos, etc.).  Children are a great way to personalize your story and are welcome to attend!

VERY IMPORTANT NOTICE: Please individually register every single person in your party who is attending and be sure to include the full address with zip code!

When: May 8th - 9th

Where: Hotel to be announced, Springfield, IL

A Persuasive Argument for a New Hemophilia A Drug: Revolutionizing Treatment and Transforming Lives

Introduction:
Update about a groundbreaking new drug that has the potential to revolutionize hemophilia A treatment and transform the lives of millions affected by this rare bleeding disorder.
1. Addressing Unmet Needs:
Hemophilia A, a genetic disorder characterized by impaired blood clotting, significantly impacts the quality of life of those who suffer from it. Current treatment options, while effective, are not without limitations. Patients often require frequent intravenous infusions of clotting factor concentrates, which can be time-consuming, burdensome, and pose the risk of inhibitor development. This new hemophilia A drug, however, has the potential to address these unmet needs and improve patient outcomes.
2. Substantial Efficacy:
The clinical trial has demonstrated the striking efficacy of this new drug. By utilizing cutting-edge gene-editing technology, it targets and corrects the genetic mutation responsible for clotting factor VIII deficiency, the underlying cause of hemophilia A.
3. Convenience and Reduced Burden:
One of the most significant advantages of this new drug is its convenience and reduced treatment burden. Unlike traditional treatments, which require regular infusions, this drug has the potential to offer a prolonged therapeutic effect. Administered through a simple, one-time intravenous infusion, patients will experience fewer interruptions to their daily lives. This convenience will not only enhance adherence to treatment but also alleviate the emotional and physical toll that frequent infusions impose on patients and their families.
4. Prevention of Inhibitor Development:
One of the most dreaded complications of current hemophilia A treatment is the development of inhibitors, which neutralize the therapeutic effects of clotting factor concentrates. The promising feature of this new drug is its potential to prevent inhibitor development altogether. By addressing the genetic mutation at its source, it has the capability to provide sustainable and long-lasting clotting factor VIII production, making inhibitors a concern of the past.
5. Cost-Effectiveness:
Although concerns about the cost of novel treatments often arise, it is essential to consider the long-term benefits and potential cost-effectiveness of this new drug. By reducing the frequency of injectable medicine that is used to control and reduce the number of bleeding episodes in people with hemophilia A.

Can you believe it!

50 years of Camp Warren Jyrch!  When our first camp rolled out, Nixon was President, Bad, Bad, Leroy Brown was topping the charts, the Dolphins won the Super Bowl and Cubs fans would have to wait 43 more years for that elusive World Series win.  In 1973 the world of Hemophilia was still trying to be heard; at times it could be scary. In order to aid in bridging this  gap, Camp Warren Jyrch was created to provide a place of safety, support, and lifelong friendships being built.

On July 8th we are opening the doors to reconnect and celebrate our past by recognizing all past, current, and future campers with a simple get together.  Please come to talk, eat, hangout, and share those memories/stories of past camps and remember all involved. This is a time to have some fun, hang out and just bring together our community for nothing more than celebrating our past and future whilst enjoying some relaxing fellowship. It is also a potluck, we will be providing, pop, grilling items, chips and some sides so bring your favorite or best dish! BDAI is so excited to see you and hang out with everyone!

Later this year we will have a more formal get together to honor and celebrate the brotherhood and sisterhood of campers for the years gone by.  John and Lily along other will share their stories of crazy camp times, camp stories or campers remembered.
